The Trend: A/W 14 Braids

Braids are always uncertain territory. There's such a fine line between chic and pre-teen, it's often hard to know where to begin. So when the braid trend resurfaced on the catwalk with the latest collections for A/W 14, fingers everywhere scrambled to practice that perfect sophisticated plait ready for autumn.
But why wait for autumn? I flipped my hair into a side parting and opted for a simple french plait which I then snaked down to my ear, gripping underneath along the way. I tuck the rest of my hair behind my ear, spritz a little Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Texturising Spray into the other side of my parting and I'm good to go.
And when my hands are reaching for make up, I like this look most teamed with a bronzed complexion and a catflick. Work a tan with the right braids and you'll air a kind of 'festival grown up' look that hair feathers just failed to grasp.
Then just chuck on a black cami, your favourite skinnies and a clean cut satchel to polish it off. Shoes are are your call, but for me I'm all over chunky white boots right now.
As for autumn, catflicks and plum lipsticks will be at the ready. The hamsa earring will be replaced with a Vivienne Westwood stud and there'll be chunky cardigans a plenty.
I can't wait.
